| Updated: It’s remarkable how modern technology can improve our daily lives while also transporting us back in time and reminding us how things used to be. The American Diner slot by Dragon Gaming does exactly that. It takes players back to the 1950s, long before the internet was invented, when no one could have predicted that a smiling courier would appear at their door with a bag full of food after just a few clicks.
At least one thing hasn’t changed: just as cozy diners once remained open 24/7 for hungry customers, this virtual diner is ready to welcome casino players at any time of day. The game features 5 reels and 10 fixed paylines, allowing players to place bets ranging from $0.10 to $100.
The American Diner Theme, Graphics, and Sounds
No matter how simple or commonly used a theme may be, a skilled iGaming developer can still create an attention-grabbing title. Dragon Gaming has repeatedly proven that it is up to the task, so don’t expect to be bored while playing The American Diner slot.
The 5×3 playing grid occupies a large portion of the screen, but this doesn’t prevent you from seeing the attractive background behind it. It depicts an old-fashioned restaurant with a stylish car parked outside and a cityscape in the distance. Every element of the slot relates to the diner theme, and careful thought has even gone into the design of the otherwise commonly used symbols.
The American Diner Symbols and Payouts
Be warned: you may experience an occasional bout of extreme hunger while spinning the reels. That is hardly surprising when the low-paying regular symbols, represented by the J, Q, K, and A card symbols, take the form of a cheddar sandwich, a hamburger, hot dogs, and a chocolate milkshake. Let’s look at what they can do for your bankroll. These icons share the same multipliers, paying 10x, 30x, or 100x your stake when you line up 3, 4, or 5 identical symbols.
The four higher-paying icons are associated with the warm and friendly atmosphere of 1950s diners. The roller skates used by the waitress to glide between tables and the coffee machine that fills the air with a pleasant aroma pay between 20x and 150x your bet for 3 to 5 matching symbols. Next comes a colorful jukebox with a maximum payout of 200x. If you manage to land five car symbols on a payline, you will receive 300x your stake.
Both the Wild, represented by the waitress, and the Scatter, represented by the bonus logo, have dual roles in The American Diner slot. You will learn about their special functions in the following section of this casino game review. Here are their standard multipliers:
- Wild: 30x, 100x, 300x
- Scatter: 5x, 20x, 40x
The American Diner Bonus Mechanics
In land-based diners, the waitress takes care of you by recommending menu items and bringing treats. In this virtual diner, she can make the experience more exciting and rewarding. First, the Wild symbol can substitute for any regular symbol if it helps you complete a winning combination. Moreover, if the waitress icon participates in a winning combination, the corresponding winnings will be multiplied by the number of the reel on which it appears.
The Wild symbol’s abilities don’t end there. At random, the waitress can appear across an entire reel rather than in a single position. Once this happens, re-spins are triggered, and their number depends on the reel she occupies. For example, if the waitress appears on reel 2, you will receive four re-spins. After each spin, she moves one reel to the right, making her an Extending Walking Wild. No Scatters or additional Wild reels are awarded during this feature.
Earlier, we mentioned the Bonus symbol and its cash payout during the base game, but it also functions as a Scatter. Landing 3 or more Bonus symbols will activate 8, 10, or 12 Free Spin Games. This bonus feature can be retriggered, allowing additional Scatter icons to award more free spins.
Closing Thoughts
Dragon Gaming did an excellent job designing this title’s visuals, sound effects, and game mechanics. The brand has once again shown that it is capable of competing with many of its more experienced peers. Although The American Diner online slot does not offer an abundance of special features, its charm may still captivate players. The re-spins and free games also include multipliers, so your cash wins can become quite substantial. According to the game’s statistics, its expected long-term payback is 96.12%.
