| Updated: Top Gun is another title in Playtech’s portfolio, taking inspiration from the popular 1986 Paramount Pictures film of the same name. The game features 3 rows and 5 reels, with 243 possible winning combinations. Its RTP is only 94.93%, but finely crafted graphics, engaging sound effects, and an authentic soundtrack keep the action moving.
Paytable and Payouts
As a branded slot, Top Gun brings the film’s familiar pilots to its five reels. The high-value regular symbols include Charlie (5x 1,000 coins), Iceman and Goose (5x 500 coins), and Jester and Stinger (5x 150 coins).
Prizes worth 100x your bet are awarded when you land five matching bomber jackets or aviator glasses. Tom Cruise’s iconic character, Maverick, is notably absent from the game. The conventional playing cards J, Q, K, and A serve as the lower-value symbols.
One of the game’s main attractions is its modern payout structure, which omits standard paylines entirely. Instead, the slot offers 243 ways to win, with payouts awarded when three or more identical symbols land on adjacent reels. Matches must start on the leftmost reel and continue consecutively to the right to trigger a payout.
Extra Features and Symbols of Interest
The iconic motion picture’s logo acts as the wild symbol, substituting for every symbol except the scatter. Additionally, the wild Top Gun logo pays 1,500 coins when five appear simultaneously.
The second special symbol is the scatter, represented by a fighter aircraft that appears only on reels 1, 3, and 5. Landing all three scatters triggers the Danger Zone feature with 8 free spins.
You can unlock additional free spins by landing the same scatter combination during the feature. The free spins come with enhanced wilds. As explained in the paytable, a “wingman” flies over the reels and randomly adds up to 15 extra wilds, boosting your chances of winning.
Recap
Top Gun is a beautifully crafted slot that stays true to the 1986 blockbuster. With high-value symbols and retriggerable free spins, the game leaves a lasting, positive impression. The only drawback is its relatively low theoretical return percentage.
